Sir Tim Brighouse

Employees and councillors at the county council are remembering former Chief Education Officer Sir Tim Brighouse who died on Friday, 15 December at the age of 83.

Sir Tim served in the role from 1978 to 1989 as part of a long and distinguished career that also saw him work in the same position in Birmingham as well as being the schools commissioner for London. He was the husband of the current and long-serving county councillor Cllr Liz Brighouse, Leader of the Labour & Co-Operative Group.

He was a very significant figure in the history of the county council and in the world of education who is often still spoken about, referenced and remembered at the authority.

Sir Tim had a national profile that was created by a career of consistent achievement wherever he worked. He will be remembered formally at the upcoming full council meeting.

All at the county council are saddened to hear of his death and thoughts are very much with his family.
