Oxford’s Rewley Road Fire Station to host career insight day
Ever wondered what’s involved in working in a range of frontline and support roles in Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service?
That is the question the team at Oxford’s Rewley Road Fire Station is asking residents, inviting them to come along and find out when the doors are opened for a career insight day on Saturday 25 May 2024.
The team will showcase the employment opportunities available, including the many support roles essential to running the service.
Jason Clifford, Rewley Road Watch Manager, explains: “We’re not just looking for frontline firefighters and you’ll be surprised by the range of roles, from data analysts to HGV mechanics, control room operators and HR advisors.”
The career insight day will include behind the scenes guided tours and an opportunity to meet and chat to the various teams.
For those interested in frontline fire and rescue, there will be a chance to try out physical assessments such as ladder climbing and putting on breathing apparatus. Firefighters will also offer advice on how to build up strength and fitness.
The team will explain how the recruitment process works and how long it takes to qualify in particular roles.
Jason Clifford said: “Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service wants to increase diversity across its teams, reflecting gender, race, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity.
“Fire doesn’t discriminate, and neither does the fire service. If you’re 18 or over, think you have what it takes to join our team or are just interested in finding out more, please come along.”
Residents are encouraged to pre-book by emailing firecity.red@oxfordshire.gov.uk but are also welcome to turnup without registering in advance.
The career insight day will take place on Saturday 25 May, 10am - 4pm at Rewley Road Fire Station, Rewley Road, Oxford, OX1 2EH.
