Oxfordshire celebrates Get Online Week 2024
Events are being held from 14 October across the county to help people improve their digital skills as part of Get Online Week.
The UK’s largest digital inclusion campaign, Get Online Week, aims to help tens of thousands of people get online in just one week.
Councillor Neil Fawcett, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community & Corporate Services, said: “Get Online Week provides valuable assistance and support to individuals of all ages, helping them build confidence in using the internet. With many council and essential services now available online, these events offer a fantastic opportunity to learn digital skills in a welcoming environment.
“Whether it’s using banking apps, booking appointments through the NHS app, or accessing eBooks and newspapers with a county council library membership, enhancing digital skills can significantly improve residents’ lives.
“It doesn’t matter what your level of knowledge and experience with the digital world is, there is something to help everyone.”
To celebrate this campaign and digital inclusion as a whole, Oxfordshire County Council’s libraries and community groups have organised events to help people learn more about the online world:
14 October
Abingdon Library from 10am
Drop-in session to help with banking, NHS and travel apps.
15 October
Aston Tirrold Village Hall from 10am
Help, advice and guidance for help using online services desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones.
16 October
Witney Library from 10am
Supporting people to use the Oxfordshire County Council library app.
17 October
Bicester Library and Carterton Libraries from 10am
eBook and audio digital drop-in session: free eBook, audio and magazine sessions to help with downloading and navigating apps.
Moreton Area Centre from 10.30am
Getting connected: learn to navigate your way in this digital world and explore the net and the endless possibilities to connect with the world using your phone or tablet.
Westgate Library, Oxford, 3pm - 4pm
New library computers, news and music streaming services: question and answer session about how to get online using new library computers, news searching and music streaming facilities.
18 October
Headington Library and Wantage Library, 2pm - 4pm
Intro to eBooks, magazines and audio: how to use eBooks and magazines. Bring a device.

Getting Oxfordshire Online was set up in 2021 by Oxfordshire Community Foundation, supported by seed funding from Our Common Good and Oxfordshire County Council. SOFEA are now the lead partner, working with Aspire and Bicester Green in the management team, supported by a network of partners.
They work in partnership with local communities to provide refurbished devices, connectivity and support to help everyone access the internet.
