New voices sought for Oxfordshire libraries’ short story competition
Budding writers of all ages are being encouraged to get their creative thoughts flowing and take part in Oxfordshire libraries’ ebook short story competition, which launches today (14 September).
The annual competition, hosted by Oxfordshire County Council’s libraries service, is a chance to discover new writers, original stories and unique voices from around Oxfordshire.
Winners of each category will see their short story published as an eBook on the Oxfordshire Libraries OverDrive platform and Libby app.
Councillor Neil Fawcett, Deputy Leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “Our short story competition is always popular and generates amazing levels of creativity and engagement.
“Past winning stories have gone on to become some of the year's most popular downloads, making this a fantastic opportunity to get your writing published, discovered and enjoyed by readers across the county.”
The competition is split into three age categories:
- Children: seven to 11 years old
- Young adult: 12 to 17 years old
- Adult: 18 and above.
Children’s stories can be up to 1,000 words. Stories by young adults and adults can be up to 3,000 words.
The competition is free to enter, and entries can be submitted until Sunday 15 November 2026.
