From Bake Off beginners to master chefs – everyone’s invited to celebrate this winter with Dementia Oxfordshire

Bakers of all ages and abilities are invited to share their culinary delights at next week’s Winter Fayre Bake Off.

Organised by Dementia Oxfordshire – a service provided by Age UK Oxfordshire with funding support from Oxfordshire County Council – the event is happening at Bullingdon Community Hall, Headington, 10am - 3pm on Wednesday 6 December as part of a wider celebration of the festive season.

Councillor Tim Bearder, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Winter can be a difficult time for some people, with shorter days and fewer opportunities to meet up with friends and family.

“That’s why events like Dementia Oxfordshire’s Winter Fayre are so important. It not only gives people the chance to come together and share some festive cheer, but there’s also the opportunity to pick up some really helpful information about ways you and your loved ones can stay well through the winter months ahead.”

Whether presenting your own baking masterpiece or lending your expertise as a tasting judge, there’s something for everyone. In true competitive fashion, there will also be a prize for whoever is crowned champion of Dementia Oxfordshire’s Bake Off!

Instead of an entry fee, Dementia Oxfordshire will be asking people to donate whatever they can. A deal made even sweeter by Barclays Bank’s pledge to match all funding raised at the winter fayre.

The event will be more than just the baking competition, with entertainment and live music from a Christmas choir, the opportunity to unleash your creativity in an artistic workshop, and the chance to indulge in some festive food and drink.

It will also serve as a great opportunity for people in the local community to connect with and learn from others who share similar experiences. In addition, Age UK Oxfordshire will be providing hints, tips and information about staying well this winter.

The winter fayre is one of a number of events hosted by Dementia Oxfordshire to help support people in the area living with dementia, as well as raising awareness of the condition with the general public.

The service is provided by Age UK Oxfordshire, one of the county council’s Oxfordshire Way partners. The charity receives funding from the council’s adult social care budget to help support older people – including those with dementia – to live happily and as independently as possible, within their own communities.
