Work begins on new park and ride site
Site preparation work for a new 850 space park and ride, located on the A40 eastbound in Eynsham, started today, Monday 17 October 2022.
The site will be cleared and made ready for construction equipment to be brought in before key excavation and earthworks begin in December.
The development is part of a wider programme of work aimed at improving travel options between Witney and Oxford. The park and ride will help reduce congestion on the A40 and provide regular and reliable public transport services in and out of Oxford.
Users will benefit from around the clock security, dedicated cycle storage, public toilets and electric vehicle parking bays. The site will be open 24 hours a day and is designed for easy use with dedicated access and exit routes.
Councillor Duncan Enright, Cabinet Member for Travel and Development Strategy, said: “The park and ride will provide an attractive and more sustainable alternative to the car. By significantly improving the A40 corridor, we will improve the reliability, frequency and connectivity of public transport services into and beyond Oxford from the west.
“The beginning of construction in December will be a positive step on the way to reduced congestion levels, improved air quality and better journeys for those travelling to Oxford and further afield, for both work and pleasure.”
The park and ride is part of an £180 million investment in the A40, which will deliver junction improvements and better facilities for walking, cycling and those using public transport.
The programme will result altogether in better transport links, support the creation of new jobs and housing, reduced emissions and provide more sustainable travel options.
Construction of the Eynsham park and ride is expected to complete in early 2024 and open for use, once other improvements are completed, in late 2025.
