Witney Library to get major upgrade
A major refurbishment is set to provide Witney residents with a new and improved library.
The Oxfordshire County Council library, on Welch Way, will close temporarily to residents on 24 February for the renovation work and is expected to reopen in the summer.
During the closure, residents can access services at the temporary library in Witney Fire Station from Wednesday 26 February.
It will continue to offer access to a limited range of books as well as computers, printing and other services such as bus pass validation before the main library reopens.
Councillor Neil Fawcett, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services said: “We are pleased to show our continued commitment to our library services throughout the county with additional investment such as this.
“The improvements of Witney Library will provide the local community with a fresh, modern facility for everyone of all ages to enjoy. It’s great we can provide an alternative temporary facility too, which will ensure that residents do not lose an important community space.”
The planned renovations include upgrades to heating, windows and insulation to lower carbon emissions and heating costs, along with significant roof repairs and improvements
Following the work, the library will undergo a complete redecoration and feature new additions such as moveable shelving for larger events, an enhanced children’s area, dedicated study and work spaces, and new books.
The closure is part of an ongoing improvement programme across Oxfordshire County Council’s library network.
The work is being made possible by central government decarbonisation funds and local developers through section 106 agreements, as well as funds provided directly by the county council.
