Witney library set to reopen following major redevelopment
A new and improved Witney Library is set to reopen to residents later this year, 6 December, following a comprehensive programme of modernisation.
Improvements to the Oxfordshire County Council library include new windows, more efficient heating, and a complete refurbishment, making it brighter, warmer, and more energy efficient.
The interior has been redesigned to create a flexible space that features new shelving, public computers, and areas with electric sockets for customers who wish to work.
A new community meeting room has also been created, alongside a vibrant and expanded children’s area.
Councillor Neil Fawcett, Deputy Leader of Oxfordshire County Council and Cabinet Member for Community and Corporate Services, said: “We are delighted to reopen Witney library after extensive repair and a fantastic refurbishment.
"The work, which coincides with the 60th birthday of the library, will make an even more welcoming and accessible space that will serve the local community for many years to come.
"The work will also make the library more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.”
A large number of new books have also been bought for the library.
The upgrades form part of an ongoing project to modernise Oxfordshire’s libraries, and improve accessibility, reflecting the changing needs of local communities.
The project has been made possible through a combination of central government decarbonisation funds, and developer funding also known as Section 106 Funding.
The work is being delivered by the county council’s libraries and minor works teams.
