Swan School gets green light to open in September

Parents of children across Oxford due to move to secondary school in September 2019 are now hearing that The Swan School  will open in September as planned.

Oxfordshire County Council and the school sponsor the River Learning Trust had been waiting news from central government about the final signing of the funding agreement – the last formal approval required for the school to be able to open.

That agreement has now been signed and the school will be able to open for the 2019/20 academic year.

All systems go

Lucy Butler, Director for Children’s Services, said: “The county council, the River Learning Trust and parents across Oxford have been awaiting this news so that everyone has certainty as Summer approaches. We are delighted that the agreement has now been signed and it is all systems go for the Swan to open its doors in September.”

More than 86 per cent of children in Oxfordshire got their first choice of secondary school for 2019/20, which as in all previous years is above national averages. The certainty that the Swan School will open on time means that this figure is expected to rise further.
