Share your thoughts on design for Witney High Street improvements

Residents and visitors to Witney are being asked for their feedback on design proposals to improve the town’s High Street and Market Square.

Oxfordshire County Council has today (11 September 2024) launched a four week survey to hear people’s views on the draft designs.

The design proposals have been drafted following last year’s community engagement with local residents, businesses and councillors to help shape a vision to enhance the High Street and Market Square while improving walking, wheeling and cycling.

The project is funded by a £1.98 million grant from Active Travel England.

Councillor Judy Roberts, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Development Strategy, said: “It was wonderful to receive such a wealth of feedback and inspiration from so many people last year. I am delighted to see how this has been realised in a draft design to support better active travel opportunities and complement an historic and beautiful town centre.”

“I am very much looking forward to hearing how people find the design and seeing how the final plans take shape and come into being in the new year.”

People can take part in an online survey on the county council’s digital engagement and consultation platform, Let’s talk Oxfordshire. The survey closes at 11.59pm on Wednesday 9 October 2024.

The online survey will be supported by two drop-in events for members of the public to view the draft designs for the proposals and speak to the team in person:

• Saturday 14 September, 10am - 4pm 
  Witney Methodist Church, 40 High Street, Witney OX28 6HG
• Thursday 19 September, 4pm - 8pm 
  Witney Methodist Church, 40 High Street, Witney OX28 6HG

Feedback will help to identify any possible amendments that should be incorporated into the final design, which would then be subject to approval at a county council cabinet member decision meeting later this year. Construction work would then be expected to begin early in 2025.
