Planning for new Banbury school reaches next stage

Plans for the opening of a new primary school for north Banbury are gathering pace, following a decision to recommend a preferred academy sponsor.

While the county council will be building the school as part of the Southam Road development, an academy trust needs to be found to run the school once it opens.

Four multi academy trusts, all of which already run schools in Oxfordshire, have been considered, and the council's preferred sponsor will now be recommended to the Regional Schools Commissioner, who makes the final decision.

Until the RSC’s decision has been published, the preferred sponsor must remain confidential. The final decision is expected within the next couple of months.

The school will be one-form entry, and is due to open in 2020.
