Oxfordshire to “fly a flag for the Commonwealth”

More than 800 places in the country will raise the flag to mark Commonwealth Day 2016.

The county council’s Chairman, Councillor John Sanders, will raise the flag at the front entrance to County Hall at 10am the day.

He said: “I am honoured to raise the Commonwealth flag on behalf of Oxfordshire. Our county, with its vibrant and diverse communities, epitomises people coming together to celebrate our shared values.”

The event is organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society – a network of individuals and organisations committed to improving the lives and prospects of citizens across the world. It was founded in 1868, is independent of governments and is supported solely through public generosity.
