Oxfordshire decides on 1 May – key dates as 2025 county council election draws closer
Voters in Oxfordshire are being reminded of a list of key dates during April in the lead up to the county council elections on Thursday 1 May 2025.
The full total of 69 county councillors will be elected with the count scheduled to take place the day after voting, Friday 2 May, at the Vale of White Horse Leisure Centre in Abingdon.
What are the key dates?
- The last date to register to vote will be midnight on Friday 11 April 2025.
- The last date to apply for a postal vote is Monday 14 April 2025 by 5pm.
- Applications to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025.
Martin Reeves, Chief Executive of Oxfordshire County Council and Returning Officer, said: “It will soon be time for people in Oxfordshire to exercise their democratic right to vote in the 2025 county council election on 1 May.
"When you vote, you're having a direct say in decisions that affect your communities and those around you. The people you vote for will be making decisions about where the county council’s budget will be spent.
“The county council provides 85 per cent of local government services in Oxfordshire such as social care for adults and children, highway maintenance, libraries, fire and rescue, trading standards, registration services, waste disposal, public health and others. It’s important that people exercise their democratic right to influence how these crucial services are delivered.
“Local councillors are there to represent your interests, and voting helps make sure that those elected really reflect what communities need and want.
“Voting is a great way to get involved in making your area a better place. Please make sure you are registered to vote and, if you use postal voting or need to appoint a proxy to vote, that you are aware of the deadlines. Every vote counts, so make sure your voice is heard."
