Oxford's George Street resurfaced

Visitors to Oxford will see the results of resurfacing work carried out by Oxfordshire County Council on a  city centre road.

George Street has been resurfaced and also received improved drainage, repaired kerbstones and new road markings.

The £265,000 project was originally scheduled for September but was fast tracked to be completed during the lockdown to take advantage of the fact shops and restaurants were shut and minimal pedestrian and bus movements.

County Councillor Liam Walker, Cabinet member for highway operation and delivery, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to bring forward this important piece of work to take advantage of quieter road conditions in the city centre.

“We have teams working hard across Oxfordshire to deliver this year’s £32m road maintenance programme and I want to pay tribute to everyone who has helped to keep things moving under very difficult circumstances.”
