Have your say on plans for Oxford’s Woodstock Road corridor

People are invited to have their say on proposed improvements to the Woodstock Road corridor (A4144) in Oxford.

Oxfordshire County Council has secured £12.5 million government funding and is planning to improve the area between Wolvercote roundabout and Green Templeton College in the city centre to create more sustainable, safer, and more reliable travel options for those who rely on it for work and leisure.

Councillor Tim Bearder, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Management, said: “This is a huge investment in our cycling network allowing active travel commuters to safely cycle on over 3km of vastly improved paths along Woodstock Road. We've worked hard with the bus companies and other road users to create a transport network that makes active travel the first choice for short journeys and improves public transport to significantly reduce our reliance on cars.

“The Woodstock Road corridor project proposes radical improvements to walking and cycling facilities and to public transport and I would urge anyone with an interest to take part in the consultation and let us know what you think”

The council is proposing continuous cycling and pedestrian provisions with segregated cycle lanes and improved footpaths to help reduce bus journey times, improve air quality, and support the delivery of planned housing growth in Oxford.

Members of the public are invited to take part in a consultation on the first stage of the design process, which the council prepared collaboratively with a number of different people and organisations.

There are no low traffic neighbourhood proposals associated with this scheme, meaning there will be no proposals for the closure of any side roads, nor will there be any for the upcoming public consultation on the Banbury Road improvements, which is due to follow in the next few months.

To take part in the consultation, which runs until midnight on 28 November 2021 visit:https://letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/woodstock-road-improvements. This consultation takes advantage of a new online visualisation tool – Remix – which is aimed at making it easier for the public to understand proposals instead of difficult to read engineering drawings. Plans in Remix are based on engineering drawings, improved with additional images to bring the design to life.
