Grab a preloved bargain at Dix Pit household waste recycling centre

Visitors to a west Oxfordshire household waste recycling centre on Saturday 16 July can pick up a preloved bargain.

FCC Environment, which runs Oxfordshire County Council’s Dix Pit Household Waste Recycling Centre, will be opening its first pop-up reuse shop for the day, from 8am - 1pm.

Located in the car park of the site in Linch Hill, Stanton Harcourt OX29 5BB, the pop-up shop will sell good quality preloved items at bargain prices.

With the school summer holidays almost upon us, visitors can expect to find a range of children’s toys and games including electronic games, board games and books, and sporting goods ranging from bicycles and golf clubs to exercise equipment, rackets and bats.

There will also be garden tools, pots and planters, and a selection of furniture – including items which will be perfect for upcycling.

Councillor Pete Sudbury, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change Delivery and Environment, said: “Keeping items in use for as long as possible, donating what we no longer need and purchasing preloved goods wherever possible is something we can all do to reduce our impact on the environment and keep our carbon footprint as low as possible.

“Residents often comment that they have spotted something that they can make use of at our sites, and we are hoping that this trial event is a great success and helps us plan more reuse from our sites in the future.”

Steve Longdon, FCC Environment’s Operations Director, said: “As we all strive to do our bit, reducing and reusing waste has got to be our ultimate goal and this trial event will give us insight into how we can make use of preloved goods brought into the site to avoid waste in the first place. We are really interested to see how this trial works as we look to create more reuse and recycling opportunities for our site users.”

Rob Harris, FCC Environment’s Contract Operations Manager, said: “Every day at Dix Pit we receive amazing items that have lots of life left in them. We understand that it’s easy to bring everything to us in one go for recycling or disposal, but we wanted to provide residents with an alternative, so we are trialling a pop-up reuse shop this weekend to see what people think of the concept.

“We have been putting great items from bikes and golf clubs to books and electronic devices to one side for some time and these will be available for sale to residents who can put them to good use.”
