Students receiving their GCSEs are being signposted by Oxfordshire County Council to trusted organisations providing helpful tips and advice on next steps, from continuing in education to seeking employment or training.

Advice can be found at oxme.info and on the National Careers Service’s website, or through its helpline 0800 100 900.

Young people interested in apprenticeships can visit a number of websites for further information: oxme, Gov.UK or UCAS.

While those who haven’t got the grades needed for their planned next steps and may be rethinking their college or sixth form options, the council encourages them to speak to their school’s careers officer, form tutor or head of year.

Students can also contact Activate Learning, Abingdon and Witney College or Henley College if further education is a preferred option.

Councillor Sean Gaul, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Well done to GCSE students who received their desired results. However, I know this is a day of mixed emotions, with some of you not attaining the grades you’d hoped for.

“For every student completing their GCSEs, you now have to decide what to do next, consider your options or adjust your plans.

“There are many choices, from continuing in education to beginning work, starting a career or an apprenticeship or embarking on a training programme.

“Support is available through a number of services that offer help for young people.

“I’d like to thank the wide number of educational professionals who have taught, coached and mentored our young people during their time in Oxfordshire’s schools and colleges.”
