Emergency Thames Water work on A423 Southern Bypass

Emergency work being done by Thames Water to repair a major water main on the A423 Southern Bypass at the Kennington Railway Bridge continues this evening.

Road users are being advised that while Thames Water continue to carry out this essential work there will be delays and the best advice is to avoid the area if possible or plan your journeys to take delays into account.

The county council has been advised that a 600mm trunk main is currently leaking and Thames Water are working hard to fix the problem and ensure that no significant damage is done to the road or other infrastructure. It is likely that the work will continue until into next week. In the meantime one lane has been closed for safety reasons in each direction.

Under these circumstances, while everything is done to minimise the impacts on the travelling public, delays are unavoidable especially at peak times.
