Dynamic care team recognised for providing innovative personalised care
A care team that provides a unique hybrid approach to supporting adults with additional needs has been nominated for a prestigious local award.
Oxfordshire County Council’s community partnership team provides traditional building-based activities from Mayott House in Abingdon while also delivering outreach support across the county, for adults identified as needing more one to one, personalised care.
They have now been nominated in the care team category at next month’s Oxfordshire Care Awards.
Bianca Moss is the Community Partnership Team Manager at Oxfordshire County Council and said: “We really are unique in our approach to providing care. Unlike more formal services, we are given the flexibility to offer a range of activities in different locations, that really make a difference to the people we support.”
The community partnership team was developed in response to the social distancing challenges of the COVID pandemic, when people were unable to visit community support services due to lockdown restrictions.
Instead of basing themselves from a council community support service building, the team instead worked with extra care housing providers, bpha, to provide a more traditional day care support in the form of a café for residents and visitors at Mayott House, Abingdon.
Alongside this, countywide outreach support can be offered to adults identified as most in need, including people with mental health concerns associated with loneliness and depression.
Bianca said: “We are the only team I’m aware of able to offer this holistic, individualised support, as well as our building-based care. Whether it’s bingo or knit and natter at Mayott House, supporting someone to attend a GP appointment or help decluttering their house, our small team has the autonomy to think differently and put the person they are supporting at the very heart of what they do.”
The community partnership team has now been recognised for its work by being shortlisted for the team of the year at the Oxfordshire Care Awards.
The prestigious awards recognise excellence in the local care sector and will take place at Blenheim Palace on Tuesday 6 May.

“This is only made possible by the partnership we have formed with housing providers bpha, as well as by working with The Order of St John Care Team, who provide care and support at Mayott House.
“With their backing, our small and creative community partnership team can offer the flexibility needed to provide this unique, hybrid model of support for our residents.”
