Drug and alcohol service provides vital support to young people
Young people in Oxfordshire affected by drug and alcohol issues can find valuable help and support through Oxfordshire County Council’s revamped service, Here 4 YOUth.
The service, provided by Cranstoun on behalf of the council from 1 April, will offer advice, support and therapeutic interventions for those aged between eight and 19 affected by their own substance use or a family member’s.
Individuals can be referred by a professional or can self-refer for help.
Councillor Mark Lygo, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Equalities said: “It is so important that children and young people can easily access free services where they can get help with issues related to substance use in a confidential and non-judgemental way. This could be help with their own use or support for those affected by someone else's. We are confident that our Here 4 YOUth service will provide young people with the vital help they need.”
Vicky Branch, Head of Young People’s Services said: “We’re excited to be delivering this key service to young people up to 25 years old, who need support with their drug and alcohol use across Oxfordshire.
“At Cranstoun, Here4YOUth we work with young people looking to address their substance use and also help and support those affected by someone else’s drug and alcohol use.
"We believe that every young person deserves the best start in life and our vision is to inspire and empower people to lead healthier and safer lives.”
The service is a continuation and revamp of the council’s existing children and young people’s service. Those already working with the service should see no change in the support they are receiving.
Future plans for this service include increasing the age range to up to 25 years, which will overlap with the adults’ alcohol and drug service, and a trial of whole family support for substance use.
People aged 18 or over can access support through the Turning Point Roads to Recovery service.
