Cowley Road, Oxford, work progressing well

Work to repair and resurface one of the major routes into Oxford is progressing well.

Oxfordshire County Council is investing £1.5m on resurfacing Cowley Road between the Plain Roundabout and Magdalen Road. Drainage and footways are also being repaired and worn buff coloured surfacing replaced. The road will also be strengthened at bus stops.

The team are now on week two of their 12 week programme and are currently working on the enabling works which include removal of traffic islands, kerb repairs and drainage improvements

County Councillor Yvonne Constance, Cabinet member for Environment, said: “Cowley Road is an important route into Oxford City Centre and I am sure that anyone who travels that way will be pleased with the end result.

“We are spending more than ever on road repairs and have pledged an extra £13m for road maintenance this financial year on top of our existing £18.5m programme of work – this follows last year’s additional £12m.”

At the moment temporary traffic lights are being used after the morning peak.
