Are you eligible for 30 hours of free childcare?

Working parents with children aged three or four are being reminded to check if they qualify for 30 hours of free childcare.

The national scheme is open to parents who expect to earn at least £120 week – equal to 16 hours at the national minimum wage. If in a couple, this must apply to both partners.

Parents on maternity, paternity or adoption leave, or those unable to work due to disability or caring responsibilities could still be eligible.

Check eligibility

Check your eligibility online at Childcare Choices. To apply for 30 hours and/or Tax Free Childcare, you will need the following documents:

  • National insurance number(s)
  • Unique Taxpayer Reference (self-employed)
  • The date you started or are due to start work
  • Details of any other government support you receive

Families with a child who is three years old by 31 December can join those already benefiting by applying by the beginning of December for a January start.

Visit the Family Information Service to search for information about childcare providers.
