Fun and laughter with Shakespeare at the Oxfordshire Museum
People are invited to a night of hilarity at the Oxfordshire Museum as 440 Theatre perform a Shakespearean double bill of Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the garden next month.
The performance, coming to the Woodstock museum on 19 July, sees both plays performed by four actors in around 40 minutes each – resulting in a hilariously speedy tour of two of Shakespeare’s finest pieces.
Jemma Davey, Museum Service Manager at Oxfordshire County Council, said: “We’re happy to be opening up the beautiful gardens at the museum for a performance by 440 Theatre for the first time. It’s sure to be a magical evening watching a unique performance of two legendary pieces of theatre.
“This is just one of so many exciting events we have on this summer at the museum. Fletchers House, which hosts the museum, was built in 1613, so you can watch these fantastic plays with a genuine Jacobean building from the time of Shakespeare in the background. I’ve already got my tickets booked!”
Doors open at 6.30pm, with the show starting at 7pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own low-backed chairs and blankets.
Picnics are also welcome, but refreshments can be purchased at the museum café and delicious picnic boxes prepared by their café team are available for pre-order using the event website. No dogs are permitted, except assistance dogs.
Should it rain, umbrellas are not encouraged to avoid ruining the experience for others. Instead, people should bring raincoats and macs.
