Have your say on the future of two care homes
Residents have just under two weeks left to share their views on proposals for the future of Henry Cornish Care Centre in Chipping Norton, and Townsend House in Headington, Oxford.
The public consultation is being run jointly by Oxfordshire County Council, Oxfordshire Care Partnership and The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJ). It is considering the future of residential care at the two sites, including whether the care homes should close. No decisions have been made.
People are being encouraged to respond before the consultation closes on 21 October and to make sure their views help inform the recommendations that will be considered by the council’s cabinet at a public meeting on 1 December.
The residents of both care homes and their families remain at the centre of the process. They are being supported throughout, including residents who pay for their own care.
The council’s digital engagement and consultation platform, Let’s talk Oxfordshire, includes frequently asked questions that address some of the points already raised during the consultation.
The responses cover care provision in the surrounding communities, the future use of the buildings and the context of the proposals.
Karen Fuller, Director of Adult Social Services, said: “No decisions have been made. I encourage everyone with an interest in the future of Henry Cornish Care Centre or Townsend House to respond while there is still time and make sure their views are heard.
“The residents of these two care homes and their families are our main priority. We would also encourage employees and members of the community to have their say by taking part in the public consultation and sharing their views directly with the council.
“We understand that there are some concerns in the surrounding communities, and we want to hear as many viewpoints as possible.”
There are two separate consultations running in parallel, one for each care home. They can be found on Let’s talk Oxfordshire.
