Share your thoughts on active travel proposals for Charlbury

Residents and people who travel around the Charlbury area are being invited to help shape a draft plan to make walking, wheeling, cycling and public transport work better for them around their local area.

Oxfordshire County Council is asking people to share their thoughts on what highway improvements are needed to provide Charlbury and other parishes in the area with a high-quality active travel network. Improvements could include things like better cycleways, footways and paths that are more accessible for wheelchairs, rollators and prams, and new pedestrian crossings to make it easier to get around in west Oxfordshire.

Councillor Liz Leffman, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Construction and Repair said: “Sustainable active travel is a great way to make healthy activity a part of daily life and look after our environment. We want to hear from residents on the improvements you would like to see to make local travel on foot, bike or using a mobility aid simpler and better for you – whether it’s popping to your local shop, visiting friends, or cycling out with family.”

People can view the draft plan and share their feedback on the county council’s engagement platform Let’s talk Oxfordshire, until 29 October 2026. They can also write to the council with their feedback or call the county council's customer services team to ask for a paper copy.

The draft Charlbury and surrounding areas local cycling, walking and infrastructure plan (LCWIP) has been developed with local partners. It proposes a joined-up network that links the places people need to go with less need to rely on the car – including shops, GP practices, businesses, workplaces and schools.

It aims to help make walking, wheeling and cycling an easy everyday choice for short journeys or as part of longer journeys together with trains or buses. This will enhance local travel options and support a thriving, and healthy area which is a great place to live, work and visit.

People’s feedback will help to shape a final plan, which will be adopted as council policy, helping to guide the council in bidding for funding as it becomes available to make improvements set out in the plan.
