Extreme heat in England including Oxfordshire

An amber weather warning was in place for heat covering large parts of central England on Thursday 13 August from 9am to midnight.

All but the most westerly stretches of Oxfordshire were previously included in this warning. The Met Office extended this further west to cover the whole county and beyond.

Advice in hot weather

The government provides the following advice on how to stay safe during hot weather. Anyone can become unwell if they get too hot. However, some people are at higher risk.

It is important to follow this guidance so that you are prepared for hot weather and can take action to cool yourself and your home. The NHS offers additional advice .

Heatwaves may increase the likelihood of seizures in people with epilepsy. The Epilepsy Society has some useful information on managing epilepsy during heat.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has water safety advice related to avoiding getting into difficulty in the county’s waterways during the hot weather.
