Cherwell Street to partially reopen over the weekend
Oxfordshire County Council has been advised that Cherwell Street in Banbury can safely partially reopen this weekend following the scaffolding collapse that closed the road on Wednesday 21 October.
The council had been awaiting safety advice from Cherwell District Council. who have now confirmed that the carriageway furthest from the scaffolding site can reopen between the George Street and Bridge Street junctions. Public safety has been at the forefront of all decision making.
To maintain traffic flow, some right turns into Lower Cherwell Street and the Morrisons petrol station will be restricted. It is expected that these traffic management arrangements will be in place by some point over the weekend.
However, Cherwell Street is likely to close again temporarily at some point to allow crane operations for operations in assisting further in making the site safe.
The council will await further information from Cherwell District Council and the Health and Safety Executive before progressing to a full reopening.
