By-election in Chesterton and Launton on Thursday 3 September 2026

An Oxfordshire County Council by-election is to take place following the resignation of Councillor Will Boucher-Giles, who has represented Chesterton and Launton since May 2025.

The Notice of Election was published at County Hall on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 and on the council’s website by the county council’s Chief Executive, Martin Reeves, in his role as the council’s Returning Officer.

The election will be held on Thursday, 3 September 2026.

Key dates in the election timetable are:

  • Friday 7 August 2026 – Statement of Persons Nominated (by 4pm).
  • Monday 17 August 2026 - Deadline to register to vote (by 11.59pm) - Register to vote - GOV.UK
  • Tuesday 18 August 2026 - Deadline to apply for a postal vote or amend an existing postal vote (by 5pm).
  • Tuesday 25 August 2026 - Publication of notice of poll - who is standing and where polling stations will be for this election. At 5pm the same day, the deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate or a proxy vote.
