#OurDay - Keeping people safe and well through the winter

What is #OurDay?

#OurDay is a yearly tweetathon for local government to show what it does in a typical day.

Our fire and rescue service is working hard to ensure that residents stay safe this winter.

Our fire and rescue service play a vital role in keeping our communities safe and well. In the run up to winter they are making every effort to keep residents safe and healthy.

Safe and Well visits

Building on the long-standing success of their Home Fire Risk Checks, which have helped to protect thousands of people throughout Oxfordshire from the risk of fire in their homes, our colleagues are now offering Safe and Well visits to residents.

During the visits, colleagues not only help to reduce the risk of fire in the home for example, by checking and fitting smoke alarms, they also provide health and wellbeing advice to help people stay well during the winter months.

Request a check for you or someone you know

If you know someone who you think could benefit from a Safe and Well visit, make a referral to the fire and rescue service, you can also request a visit for yourself.

Safe and Well visits have been introduced as part of a national campaign by the Chief Fire Officers Association – find out more by watching this short film.

Staying safe this winter

Our fire and rescue service’s winter safety pages on the 365alive website are packed full of pointers for residents to keep in mind as the winter draws in. They offer advice about having your chimney swept, instructions about checking your car tyres, and even tell you how to check an electric blanket.

Visit the pages to read their life-saving advice.
