New traffic measures for Bankside, Banbury as new housing continues to be built

The Bankside area of Banbury is to see new waiting restrictions and amended traffic calming measures introduced in response to the building of new homes in the Longford Park residential development.

A number of homes in the new development are already occupied and as the site is further developed a new junction at Bankside is being constructed.

Proposals have now been approved to provide for the additional demands for travel arising from the development and these will be funded by the developer.

The new measures include:

  • The replacement of existing traffic calming chicanes with speed cushions

  • A raised zebra crossing

  • The introduction of additional waiting restrictions to help traffic flow more smoothly, but with sections left free where residents need to park

Advisory cycle lanes on both sides of the road along its full length, reflecting that Bankside already forms part of a signed cycle route to the station.

The decision was approved by Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Yvonne Constance, on May 25.
