New on-street parking charges in Oxford come in on 8 April 2019
There will also be changes to costs and time limits for parking on-street in Oxford from 8 April 2019.
Prices for on-street parking will be increasing in Oxford for the first time since 2015 to encourage more motorists to use one of the five park and ride sites or one of the dedicated city-centre car parks.
While the new regulations will hopefully contribute towards reducing congestion, there will still be the same amount of on-street pay and display parking available for those who want to use it.
The 30-minute on-street parking band will also be removed – this accounts for only 9% of on-street parking usage and encourages driving into the city for very short stays. Cancelling this band reduces the impact on congestion and air pollution by removing
People with Blue Badges will be able to park as normal and are unaffected by the changes.
Funding transport improvements and encouraging better parking choices
Income from on-street fees goes towards running the service and any surplus is used to fund transport-related improvements within the city, which includes the park and ride sites.
Until now there have been a range of different on-street charges in different locations in the city and it has also been cheaper in some instances to park on-street than off.
The introduction of new zones and charges deal with these anomalies and encourage greater use of more sustainable parking options.
Charges reduced for regular park and ride users
Although on-street charges have been increased, there are reductions for parking elsewhere.
Motorists are now benefitting from better value and more flexible parking on Oxfordshire County Council’s Park and Ride sites.
The cost of parking at Oxford Parkway and Thornhill has come down significantly for anyone purchasing monthly, quarterly or yearly Season Tickets.
And, as an added bonus, the passes can be used across all five of Oxford’s park and ride sites including Oxford City Council’s Peartree, Redbridge and Seacourt facilities.

Proactive parking management in Oxford
