New museum for soldiers

After years of fundraising and planning, the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Trust (SOFO), is funding the building of a new building which will house its collections of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars.

With more than 3,500 objects and a history that starts with the Hill Forts of Oxfordshire, the new museum will offer inspiring opportunities for all visitors especially families and  schools to explore the county’s role in conflict both here and around the world.

Two major gallery spaces are planned to house the museum’s collection and provide a home for visiting exhibitions and activities, artists, museum trails and lectures.

The Trust already runs a research centre with the help of a dedicated team of volunteers who will also be moving to the new museum.

The new museum promises to offer interactive displays, a collectors' corner, reconstructed rooms, opportunities for local arts and crafts.

Volunteers

The Trust is looking for new friends and volunteers to join the project by helping with running the office, getting hands-on with exhibits, researching stories and putting together education activities.
