Health ‘shake-up’ at Greater Leys summer activity day

A ‘shake-up’ event featuring music and moves from the world of Disney was staged by the council's Public Health team yesterday (July 27) to help families keep active and healthy.

Staff joined in the fun at the Greater Leys  Play and Activity Day in Fry’s Hill Park, run by Oxfordshire Play Association.

As part of Change4Life’s ‘10 Minute Shake Ups with Disney’ campaign, visitors were encouraged to get up and dance to Disney favourites from Zootropolis, Moana and Frozen to Finding Dory and Cars 3.

As well as the live ‘shake-ups’, children got physically active with sports and outward bound activities and tried their hand at tricky trails biking. Healthy eating-themed activities were also available including the ‘sugar-swap challenge’, ever-popular smoothie bike and edible hanging basket-making.

Get active

Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Councillor Hilary Hibbert-Biles, said: “The 10-minute Shake Ups give a fantastic, fun burst of energy that can make a real difference in helping children to reach the 60 minutes of exercise they need each day. Being active helps children to build social skills, boost self-confidence, improve bone and heart health and maintain a healthy weight.”
