Corn Street Witney to be resurfaced from 18 August

Corn Street, between Butchers Court and Marlborough Lane, will be closed from 18 August to carry out the improvement work, which will cost £220,000.

County Councillor David Nimmo Smith, Cabinet member for transport, said: “I am pleased that the county council is investing in making this stretch of road in Witney better for all road users.

“The work will inevitably cause some disruption, and we have been in contact with councillors, local businesses and residents to give them all the information on how to work around the restrictions.

“I am sure that the short term pain caused by the work will be worth the long term gain.”

A signed diversion route using Welch Way and High Street will be in place. The following restrictions will also be in place:

From Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 August, the road resurfacing for phase 1 between Butchers Court and Holloway Road will be completed with parking available west of Butchers Court.

From Thursday 21 to Bank Holiday Monday 25 August, the road will be reopened.

From Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 August, the road resurfacing for phase 2 between Holloway Road and Marlborough Lane will be completed. Parking will be available on Corn Street between Holloway Road and Butchers Court.

Marshalls will be available during the working day to assist pedestrians across the street at Holloway Road/The Crofts and at either end to provide guidance for drivers requiring access.

The current parking restrictions will be temporarily lifted between Butchers Court and the bus depot so that residents and shoppers can park there. Limited parking will be permitted for residents, deliveries and shoppers between Butchers Court and Holloway Road between 26 and 28 August.

Stagecoach services S1 and S2 will be using temporary bus stops in Welch Way. For information on other buses, please contact the bus company or see their website for further information.
