Cold weather alert for the whole of England

The amber/level 3 warning runs from noon today through to noon on Friday with the Met Office saying that severe frosts and frozen fog patches may occur.

Carole Mackay Oxfordshire County Council’s Principal Emergency Planning Officer, said: “When there’s a cold weather alert of this nature we always ask residents to check if neighbours are OK - particularly if they are elderly or vulnerable in any way.

“It’s always good to remember to allow extra time to defrost your car in the morning before setting off. Having some de-icer in stock for your car is also a useful thing to remember for this week.

“The county council has been sending out the gritters for a number of days in succession now and will no doubt continue do so on days when road temperatures are forecast to dip below zero.”

The county council covers all A-roads, B-roads and C-roads on a gritting run. This is 1,200 miles of road covered which is the equivalent of London to Iceland. Highways England covers the A34, A43 and M40.
