Burford teenagers show their Inner Edge to win Spotlight Talent Final

A TEENAGE band from Burford wowed judges to be crowned winners of Spotlight Talent 2018.

Inner Edge, comprising Luke Akroyd, Tom Bardsley, Luke Dennis and Fletcher Sharp, impressed with their spectacular songwriting and energy to win Oxfordshire County Music Service’s talent show.

The 15-year-olds won a £500 voucher from Professional Music Technology to spend on Marshall Amplification.

Singers, songwriters, instrumentalists and bands performed an outstanding range of music to a packed audience at The Centre for Music in Bayswater Road, Oxford.

Second prize went to Brodie Johnson, a 16-year-old singer-songwriter from Abingdon, who performed an emotive, original song to win an eight-hour recording session at Oxfordshire Music Rooms in Charlgrove.

Third place went Georgina Osibodu, whose soulful performance saw her claim a voucher for artist development from World Beats Music.

The audience vote prize went to Collision Theory, an Oxford-based band who delivered a charismatic performance. They won a voucher for a recording session with Oxfordshire Music Service’s own in-house music production team.

Andy Wright, Instrumental Teacher and Rock and Pop Lead at the County Music Service, said: “The competition was a close-run thing. Acts ranged in age from 11 to 18 and delighted the audience, making the judges’ decisions extremely difficult. Next year’s event promises to be an absolute cracker.”

Oxfordshire County Council’s Music Service epitomises the council’s vision for thriving people and communities and as a traded service, supported by the county council, its funding is derived from income and grants including from Arts Council England.

The Music Service plays a part in the lives of 8,000 children each week and offers activities across a broad range of music genres.
