B478 Playhatch Road repairs completed

Work to repair flood damage began on 15 September and has been completed ahead of schedule. The work involved 2 phases, the first was to repair the damaged road embankment and restore the carriageway to its previous condition. The second phase was to strengthen sections of both near-side carriageway edges on a stretch closer to the roundabout with Henley Road.

Work will be carried out in 2015 to fully resurface the road, again improving the long term health of the road and decreasing the need for work to be carried out in the near future.

The council are continuing to assess flood prevention measures along the road and are working with contractors and the Environment Agency to find the most appropriate solution for the road and the surrounding area.

Councillor David Nimmo Smith, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “I am pleased that the work has been completed and the road has been fully reopened. I appreciate it has been difficult for road users and we thank them for their patience.

“The long term repairs are still being assessed and I am confident that an appropriate solution will be found to prevent the road from flooding, as was seen earlier this year.”
